At last i think we are getting to grips with this , its not the walking its all the arrangements around the event , so i was glad this week 8 May that someone at work agreed to Drive their car a seven seater for us. Before this it was an issue as a minibus was going to cost about £350 pound and 1 driver.

So we are booked in the youth hostel  at the foot of Ben Nevis , have  transport sorted.

Walking preparations  have been going ok , i have walked the edale loop carrying  my son which is about 6 miles.
Plenty of running.
Plus the Edale three peaks( my term) which is about 12 miles , up the hill to the north of Edale along and down Jacobs ladder , then over Mam Tor into Castleton  and back over the Hill at Barkers Bank to Edale a trip of 12 miles.
About half the distance of the 3 peaks , so a long way to go yet but at the end of it felt good and could have gone longer, apart from a pulled calf muscle!

17 April, since my last post the walkers have been whittled down to the final six.

Me , my son Simon, Chris , Gary , Skelly , Chris's brother in law , which by my maths makes six.

The accommodation has been booked for the night before at Glen Nevis at the foot at the first mountain.

TRAINING

Training up date, nothing major so far running to work twice a week, some small walks up steep hills.
Things i need to do is tackle Scafle Pike , the one the book I base my plans on recommends you must do to help with navigation and  hill walk in the dark to help with navigation.

During the last 2 years I have taken up cycling to journey from London to Sheffield and then the year after that I did the same journey, this time in a kayak, all for good causes. But I swore on the god of daft ideas (do-not-do-it) never to undertake a challenge again. People at work had been asking what i was going to do for months and i said nothing doing.

So this time i must blame my wife because my doing charity stunts days were well and truly over! On mothers day I dutifully took her(the wife) out (on behalf of my son). First stop was Bakewell where i had an epiphany. Whilst looking in the shop windows I saw something called the three peaks challenge, which basically means walking up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden within 24 hours.
I was that struck by the idea that i had phoned Simon, my eldest son, whilst my wife was in the shop some 20 minutes after seeing it.

Game on!

Some suitable others were co-erst into the event, but the more i studied it the more concerned I was about what we were getting into, so i have asked them this weekend to think carefully if they wish to do it before committing themselves fully.

My training began this weekend, with a 6 mile run and a walk.
